A 15-year-old girl from the Mau district of Uttar Pradesh, 300 km from Lucknow, was assaulted and thrown from a building patio by three neighbors who harassed her, police said today . The incident took place as she returned home on Friday.

The teenager suffered serious injuries and was admitted to Azamgarh District Hospital, where she is being treated. His condition is said to be critical. His attackers have been arrested.

The incident was first reported to police on October 23.

According to the initial complaint filed by the girl’s family, the three defendants dragged her to the terrace of a building and threw her from the roof after she fought them. “The girl said that she was also beaten by the defendants,” said policeman Sushil Dhule.

“The police filed an assault and assault complaint based on the girl’s statement in which they identified the three men by name. The girl’s family filed a complaint and we filed a complaint. three defendants were arrested, “said Dit Dhule.

Police said more charges could be added to the case based on the girl’s medical report.

The incident comes amid multiple reports of crimes against women in Uttar Pradesh and opposition allegations that the government led by Yogi Adityanath has failed to keep women safe.

The state government has been widely criticized for its handling of the murder and alleged gang rape of a 19-year-old woman in Hathras district. The case has sparked massive outrage and is currently being examined by the CBI under intense national scrutiny.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said cases of violence against women should be tried by expedited courts and crimes against minors should be tried under the POCSO (protection of children from sexual offenses) law.
