Geneva:
A French artist painted a large biodegradable fresco on the lawn of the European headquarters of the United Nations in Geneva, marking the 75th anniversary of its foundation on Friday.
Saype, who was born Guillaume Legros, created the fresco “World In Progress” to remind present generations of their duty to the future and to nature. It depicts two children kneeling in a circle surrounded by animals as they draw a tree.
“Through children, you can express deep thoughts, but in a lighter and poetic way. You can talk about the world and the values we leave them,” Saype told Reuters.
The graffiti artist, 31, made the image by spraying an ecological mixture of chalk and charcoal on 6000 square meters of grass at the Palais des Nations of the United Nations in Geneva. His previous ephemeral works in his series “Beyond Walls” appeared near monuments of Côte d’Ivoire in Paris, France.
His latest work was offered by Switzerland, the host country. The League of Nations, the forerunner of the world organism, met for the first time in Geneva in November 1920. The Charter of the United Nations was adopted on June 26, 1945.
