Bhubaneswar:
The COVID-19 pandemic has hit many people hard, and the latest victim of the pandemic is Bollywood actor Kartika Sahoo from Odisha. With the entertainment industry nearly non-functional and most productions on hold, the actor is forced to sell vegetables for a living.
Mr Sahoo, originally from Garadpur district of Kendrapada district in Odisha, said he traveled to Mumbai to try his luck in Bollywood when he was 17. For many years he worked as a bodyguard for movie stars and cricketers such as Amitabh Bachchan and Sachin Tendulkar, among others.
Lady Luck shone on him in 2018 and he landed notable roles in action sequences for many films, he said while speaking with ANI. He also has a fight streak with Akshay Kumar in his upcoming movie “ Sooryavanshi ”.
Just before the nationwide lockdown which began on March 22, Mr Sahoo returned home to Odisha after filming a fight streak in Jaipur. Since then, without work, the actor lives on his savings to provide for his family. But, after four months without work and a medical emergency, much of her savings were used up.
To find work, he moved to the state capital Bhubaneswar, but to no avail. Eventually, Mr. Sahoo had to resort to selling vegetables to Rasulgad there.
Mr Sahoo is still hopeful and has said he will try his luck in Bollywood again once things get back to normal, until then he will struggle, like others, to survive.
