Patna:
Bihar police investigating the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput said authorities were unable to locate his friend, actress Rhea Chakraborty.
“The investigation is in its early stages and is in court … We have not yet been able to locate her (Rhea Chakraborty), but we are trying to do so,” said the police chief. of Bihar, Gupteshwar Pandey, adding that the court has yet to render a verdict on his petition.
A team of four Bihar police officers arrived in Mumbai on Wednesday to investigate the “incitement to suicide” case filed against Ms. Chakraborty and others in Patna. Sushant Singh Rajput died by suicide in his Bandra apartment in Bombay on June 14, city police said.
The senior policeman said that if Sushant Singh’s father wanted, he could demand a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation into the case, but the police are opposed.
He also rejected reports that the Mumbai police were mistreating Bihar officials.
“Sushant was not only the son of Bihar, he was the whole son of India,” added Mr Pandey. “We are doing our best to do justice to Sushant Singh.”
Earlier, Bihar Police Chief Manoranjan Bharti said Mumbai Police were cooperating. “They are helping us (in the investigation).”
Another official, Kaisar Alam, said Rhea Chakraborty would not be questioned at this time. “It’s not necessary at this time. She is under our supervision.”
According to the PTI News Agency, Bihar Minister Sanjay Kumar Jha, a close aide to Chief State Minister Nitish Kumar, said: “The chief minister will undoubtedly act if the demand for an investigation CBI is from the family of (Sushant) Rajput. “
Mr Rajput’s father, Krishna Kumar Singh, had filed a complaint against Rhea Chakraborty and six others, including members of his family, for “incitement to suicide”, in Patna this week. Mumbai Police, who are already investigating the case, have questioned several people in the film industry about the case.
The Directorate of Enforcement also filed a money laundering case based on an initial information report from Mr. Rajput’s father.
Ms Chakraborty, accused of cheating and harassment, broke her silence on Friday and said in tears in a video posted by her lawyers: “The truth will prevail”.
“I have immense faith in God and in justice. I believe that I will obtain justice,” she said.
