UK suspends hydroxychloroquine trial for COVID-19

There have been “new concerns” regarding the use of the drug, authorities said.

London (Reuters):

The British drug regulator on Tuesday asked scientists to try the use of hydroxychloroquine, an antimalarial drug for the treatment or prevention of COVID-19, in order to suspend the recruitment of participants.

The Medicines and Health Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) said it was following “new concerns” regarding the use of the drug, and also cited a British trial that found no significant benefit in terms mortality in patients hospitalized with COVID-19.
