The center has already announced that all services and locations outside the coronavirus containment areas, with the exception of a shortlist including international flights and gymnasiums, may reopen after June 1.

A total of 2,940 new cases and 99 deaths were reported on Saturday in Maharashtra, bringing the total to 65,168 and 2,197, respectively.

Mumbai is the most affected city in the country with 38,442 cases.

The outbreak in Maharashtra comes amid a disturbing increase across the country. India has reported more than 6,000 cases of COVID-19 every day since May 21, the last two producing more than 7,000 each.

There have been more than 1.74 cases of lakh in India, according to data from the Ministry of Health on Saturday morning, with 86,422 of them still active and 4,971 deaths. The country is the ninth most affected by the coronavirus pandemic, having increased by two points in less than seven days.
