US Vice President Mike Pence said Tuesday that the United States “will continue to take a firm stand” on Chinese entities that threaten American security, including the social media application TikTok.
Pence made the remark in an interview with Fox News Channel a day after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the United States is considering banning Chinese social media apps, including TikTok, suggesting that it shared information with the Chinese government, an accusation that TikTok has denied.
Pence, citing Washington’s firm position against Chinese telecommunications company Huawei Technologies, said that President Donald Trump had made it clear that his administration would defend the United States.
