Delhi police have arrested two dhaba owners for allegedly raping a Mumbai-based events manager at a five-star hotel in the nation’s capital. The two men were detained on Saturday, November 21, according to police.
The arrested duo Micky Mehta, 57, and Navin Dwar, 46, reside in Lajpat Nagar and Saket, Delhi, respectively, though their restaurant is located near Sonipat, Haryana.
The 27-year-old woman told police that she met her Facebook friend Mr. Mehta and his friend Mr. Dwar on November 18 and 19.
On the way back from Connaught Place to the hotel in Aerocity locality near Delhi airport on November 19, Mr. Dwar started behaving badly with her, she alleged. However, after dropping her off outside the hotel, along with Mr. Mehta, he left.
The woman alleged that Mr. Mehta then raped her in her hotel room. After the crime, he took her to the town of Anand Vihar, dropped her there and fled.
The arrested duo were taken into custody, police said.
In Delhi, according to a PTI report, more than six women are raped every day. About 98% of those accused of rape in Delhi << étaient soit des parents proches, soit des connaissances >> survivors or victims, Delhi police told a parliamentary panel on November 18. In 44% of the cases, the accused was a family member. or a family friend, a relative in 13% of cases and a neighbor in 12% of cases, according to police.
