Twitter sparked an uproar for briefly restricting Donald Trump’s re-election campaign account

Twitter Inc CEO Jack Dorsey said on Friday his company was wrong to block links to an article making statements about the son of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.

“Our goal is to try to add context, and now we have the capacity to do it,” he tweeted.

The company sparked an uproar for briefly restricting the Twitter account of US President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign after posting a video referencing the New York Post story on Thursday.

U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham and Republican Senators Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley said on Thursday that the committee would vote Tuesday on sending a summons to Dorsey.

Twitter chief policy officer Vijaya Gadde said Thursday evening that the company decided to change its policy on pirated materials following comments on its earlier application.

The Pirated Material Policy was introduced in 2018 to discourage the release of private information as a result of hacks and unauthorized exposure.

Twitter also said that despite the new policy, the New York Post story would still be blocked. A spokesperson for the company said the articles would still be blocked for “violating the rules on private personal information.”
