Washington:
President Donald Trump has announced his intention to appoint the American of Indian origin Vijay Shanker to the highest court in the national capital.
If confirmed by the Senate, Mr. Shanker will be an associate judge of the Court of Appeal for the District of Columbia, which is the highest court in Washington DC.
He is currently a senior litigation lawyer with the Department of Justice, Criminal Division, and deputy head of the appeal division.
Prior to joining the Department of Justice in 2012, Mr. Shanker worked in private practice in Washington, DC, offices of Mayer Brown, LLC and Covington & Burling, LLP.
After obtaining his law degree, Mr. Shanker was a clerk to Justice Chester J. Straub at the United States Court of Appeal for the second circuit.
He received his BA, cum laude, from Duke University and his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was a note editor for the Virginia Law Review and was inducted into the Order of Coif.
