Tripura High Court ordered state police to organize testing identification parade (representation)

Agartala:

The Tripura High Court on Thursday ordered state police to organize an identification parade to identify those who had attacked Tripura West District surveillance officer Sangita Chakraborty and her medical team when she s ‘was returned to the COVID care center for the admission of patients with the disease with their new born babies.

Judge Arindam Lodh also ordered that Ms Chakraborty’s statement be recorded in a district court.

Judge Lodh was hearing the bail application from additional government attorney Karnajit De, who was under treatment at the corona care center when the incident took place.

He said there was no “reasonable apprehension” that the petitioner would be arrested and ordered the TI parade.

In my opinion, this kind of act and commission is not only detrimental to the sentiment, safety and security of the doctors and his staff, the frontline warriors of the nation, but also to the interests society as a whole, the judge said in his and added that the petition would be resumed on August 5.

Chakraborty, a doctor, visited the COVID care center at Shaheed Bhagat Singh hostel on Friday to admit five women with their newborns after their transfer from Tripura Medical College. They were faced with a group of patients who said they would not allow any new admissions as the facility would have reached full occupancy.

When doctors at the center tried to intervene and convince the angry patients, they allegedly abused and spat on Chakraborty and also threatened to infect him with coronavirus.

An FIR has been filed by Dibyendu Bikash, on behalf of the Department of Health Services.

Officials said the covid care center has a capacity of 300 beds and 270 patients were admitted there when Chakraborty visited the facility to admit five people.

West Tripura District Police Superintendent Manik Das said some of those who abused the officer had been identified from CCTV footage.

The All Tripura Government Physicians Association demanded exemplary punishment for patients who abused and spat on Chakraborty while she was on duty.
