Babri Masjid demolition verdict came after 28 years

Calcutta:

On Wednesday, Trinamool Congress was cautious in its response to the acquittal of all defendants in the Babri Masjid demolition case by a special IWC tribunal in Lucknow and said that “those who are not satisfied with the judgment will obtain redress in the higher courts “.

While the TMC refused to respond to the verdict by supporting or opposing it, the state’s main parties – the BJP, CPI (M) and Congress criticized it for its position.

The IWC court acquitted all 32 defendants in the case, including BJP leaders L K Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Uma Bharti, in the absence of conclusive evidence suggesting a criminal conspiracy.

“This is a court ruling, so we can’t just say we oppose or support it. The verdict came after 28 years, not many people are unhappy with it. We have learned from them. media that some structures have expressed their dissatisfaction, “said Sougata Roy, leader of the TMC and spokesperson for the party.

“We hope that those who are not satisfied with the judgment will obtain redress in higher courts,” he said.

TMC had remained silent after the landmark Supreme Court verdict in November 2019 which supported the construction of a Ram temple at the disputed Ayodhya site.

TMC’s cautious response to the acquittal of all defendants in the Babri Masjid demolition case drew strong reactions from the BJP and Congress.

BJP state president Dilip Ghosh, known to be a bait of the TMC, has dared Mamata Banerjee’s party to take a stand on the issue.

“Whenever there is a problem regarding national security, the leaders of the TMC keep silent or take a position which is totally contrary to the interests of the nation and of society. This time too the same has happened,” did he declare.

“I ask them (TMC) to make it clear whether they support it (the judgment) or oppose it. I’m sure they won’t be able to answer my question,” Ghosh said.

Opposition leader and top Congress leader Abdul Mannan advised the TMC “to stop beating around the bush” and “to express its position clearly” like other mainstream political parties.

Mohammed Salim, a member of the IPC Politburo (M), also criticized the TMC.

“The judgment reinforces the current trend that those in power can get away with anything,” he said.
