Senior army commanders will conduct a comprehensive assessment of India’s combat readiness in eastern Ladakh as well as other sensitive areas along the line of effective control with China during of a four-day conference starting Monday, government sources said.

The commanders will also deliberate on a series of long-pending reform measures, such as reducing ceremonial practices and non-military activities to ensure a rational allocation of resources, they said.

Army Chief of Staff General MM Naravane will chair the Conference of Army Commanders (ACC), which is a high-level biennial event that formulates important policy decisions through a collegial system of deliberation.

He will be attended by all army commanders, the main staff officers (OPS) of the army headquarters and other senior officers.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Rawat, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Karambir Singh and Air Chief RKS Bhadauria, will speak to commanders on Tuesday, the sources said.

The sources said the commanders will deliberate exclusively on issues relating to human resource management in the military on Monday, while they will have an in-depth discussion on Wednesday on various agenda items highlighted by the top commanders. of the Army.

In addition to reviewing the security challenges facing the country, army commanders will attempt to finalize various reform measures recommended by separate internal committees in the use of limited resources while focusing on strengthening the operational capacity of the force of 1.3 million people, the sources said. .

Some of the proposals that will be on the table at the conference include discontinuing or at least downscaling Army Day and Territorial Army Day parades, reducing various ceremonial practices and reducing the number of officers’ messes at various peace posts, the sources said.

Likewise, senior military officials will also consider a proposal to reduce the number of guards in the official residences of senior officials and another to reduce the number of CSD canteens if more than one of these facilities operate at a single station, they declared.

Another proposal on the table for discussion would be to have various units cut costs to celebrate Raising Day and Battle Honor Day.

The sources said the agenda for the final day of the conference will include a briefing by the Director General of Border Roads on the various infrastructure development projects undertaken by the Border Roads Organization (BRO) and allied formations.

They said “automation initiatives” to optimize the use of manpower at different levels of the military will also be discussed.

“The conference will end with the presentation of the sports trophy and the flight safety trophy, followed by the closing speech by the army chief of staff,” said a source.
