Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman says he doesn’t have enough work in the Hindi film industry because “there is a whole gang working against him,” the PTI news agency reported. The musician composed nine songs for Sushant Singh Rajput’s latest film Dil Bechara which premiered on Disney + Hotstar on June 24. In an interview with Radio Mirchi, when AR Rahman was asked why he didn’t compose more music for Bollywood films, he said that some people in Bollywood had spread “false rumors” about him. “You see, I don’t say no to good movies, but I think there is a gang that, due to misunderstandings, is spreading false rumors,” he said, PTI reported.

AR Rahman, during the interview, also revealed that Dil Bechara Director Mukesh Chhabra has been told many stories about him by people in Bollywood and has been advised not to approach him for composing the music for his first film. “When Mukesh Chhabra came to see me, I gave him four songs in two days. He said, ‘Sir, how many people said not to go, don’t go (to him). AR Rahman is known for composing soundtracks for critically acclaimed films such as Guru, Rockstar, Dil Se, Roja, Lagaan, Raanjhanaa and Swades.

In the same interview, the Oscar-winning composer said he was aware of people’s expectations of him, but the Bollywood “gang” “prevented” him from meeting those expectations.
