The Ram Temple will be a tribute to the best of timeless human values, said Venkaiah Naidu.

New Delhi:

The construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya is much more than a religious affair and the structure will be a tribute to the best of timeless human values, Vice President Mr. Venkaiah Naidu said on Wednesday.

He also said that Lord Ram’s conduct and values form the core of India’s consciousness, transcending all kinds of divisions and barriers, and that they are still relevant today.

In a Facebook post, he said that building a temple for Lord Ram in his birthplace was more of a re-enactment of the highest human values of truth, morality and ideals than the ‘maryada purushottam’ ’embodied during his life.

“As king of Ayodhya, he led an exemplary life, worthy of being emulated by ordinary men and other nobles,” he said.

On Wednesday, Mr. Naidu and his wife Usha also recited the Ramayana at the vice president’s house to mark the “bhoomi punjan” ceremony in Ayodhya.

Members of the vice president’s family donated Rs 5 lakh each for the fight against COVID-19 and for the construction of the Ram temple, according to an official statement.

In his social media post, Mr. Naidu expressed his joy at the ceremony, saying the Ram Temple will continue to remind and strengthen the homeland ethos which is universally applicable without any discrimination.

Mr. Naidu also congratulated Iqbal Ansari, son of the late Hashim Ansari, one of the parties to the land titles dispute, for urging the people to forget the past and move forward in the true spirit of India.

His words of wisdom offer helpful advice to all, he said.

The Vice President today called the start of a new era of mutual respect for all religions and harmonious coexistence which should spur building an India of dreams for every aspiring citizen of the country.
