Coronavirus cases in India crossed 2.56 lakh cases on Monday after a record number of 9,983 cases were reported in 24 hours, even though the government has authorized a number of relaxations after more than two months of foreclosure . It was the largest jump in a single day of cases, with the country recording more than 9,000 cases for the sixth consecutive day. India is also the fifth most affected country in the world.
The total number of deaths from the virus now stands at 7,135, according to government data. The total number of cases is 2.56,611, of which 1,24,095 have recovered. 206 people have died in the past 24 hours due to the fatal disease.
India’s recovery rate – the number of patients who have successfully battled the disease – is currently 48.35% while the growth rate is 3.89%.
Maharashtra remains the most affected state in the country – the state has even exceeded the count of China with more than 85,000 cases. More than 3,000 people have died in the state and its capital, Mumbai, is one of the most affected cities in the country. Tamil Nadu and Delhi, which also record a constant spike in cases, are the second and third most affected countries in India.
In the past few days, India has seen an increase in the number of cases, even from today places of worship, malls and restaurants have reopened under “Unlock 1” – the first of the plan in three phases for the reopening of prohibited activities in non-containment zones with strict rules.
The new phase is particularly difficult for the five most affected states – Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Gujarat and Rajasthan, accounting for almost 70% of the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases and almost 78% of the deaths.
