Meerut:

Police said the headless body of a stuffed woman in a sack was found in a dump near a cemetery in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, police said.

The bag, containing the body of the woman, who police said was in her 30s, was pulled by stray animals at the landfill, an official said.

Additional (Town) Police Superintendent Akhilesh Narayan Singh said the body was found behind a Muslim cemetery in Fatehullapur, under the Lisari Gate Police Station area.

“At first glance, it appears that someone known to the woman killed her and that (the beheading) was done to hide her identity. The body was locked in a bag, which was apparently pulled by stray animals to the dump site ”. Said Mr. Singh.

He said police field units had started working and CCTV camera footage was also being checked in nearby areas.

“An investigation is ongoing and efforts are underway to resolve the case,” the officer said.

Legal proceedings are underway in the case, police said.
