The flood situation in Assam improved on Sunday, although nearly seven lakhs from 17 districts continue to suffer from the deluge, officials said.
According to the daily flood report of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), more than 6.8 lakh people are affected due to the floods in Dhemaji, Biswanath, Chirang, Darrang, Nalbari, Barpeta, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Salmara Sud, Goalpara, Kamrup, Kamrup Metropolitan, Morigaon, Nagaon, Golaghat, Jorhat and Tinsukia.
Barpeta is the most affected with more than 3.98 lakh people affected, followed by Salmara Sud with more than 87,000 people and Goalpara with more than 78,200 people.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the National Disaster Response Force (SDRF), district governments and the local population have rescued 210 people in the past 24 hours in four districts, indicates the bulletin.
As of Saturday, more than 10.75 lakh people were suffering from the deluge in 18 districts.
The total number of people who have lost their lives so far in this year’s floods and landslides is 61 across the state, of which 37 have been killed by the floods and 24 have died from the landslides ground.
At present, 1,073 villages are under water and 45,175.93 hectares of cultivated areas have been damaged, said ASDMA.
He added that the authorities were managing 62 relief camps and distribution centers in five districts, where 4,852 people are currently taking refuge.
