The Center has disbursed over Rs 42,700 crore to 20.6 lakh of retired defense personnel under the One Rank One Pension Scheme (OROP), notified five years ago, the ministry said on Friday. defense.
Under the OROP scheme, a uniform pension is paid to defense personnel who retire at the same grade with the same seniority, regardless of the date of retirement.
On November 7, 2015, the government issued an ordinance notifying the OROP regime and declared that it would enter into force on July 1, 2014.
“The annual recurrent expenditure under the OROP is around Rs 7,123 crore and for about six years, as of July 1, 2014, the total recurrent expenditure reached around Rs 42,740 crore,” said on Friday. the Ministry of Defense in a press release.
The ministry said 10,795 crore rupees had been disbursed to 20.6 lakh to defense force retirees or family retirees as arrears due to the implementation of the OROP.
The OROP was implemented to bridge the gap between current and past ex-service pensions at regular intervals.
Prior to OROP, ex-servicemen received pensions in accordance with the recommendations of the Wages Commission upon retirement.
Armed forces personnel who retired on June 30, 2014 are covered by the OROP program, the ministry said.
“The former soldiers mobilized for the implementation of the OROP for almost 45 years, but the same was not implemented until 2015,” the ministry noted on Friday.
