West Bengal recorded the highest peak on a day for COVID-19 today.

Kolkata:

West Bengal recorded the highest day-high peak in COVID-19 on Sunday, with an additional 371 positive tests for the disease, the health department said.

The total number of coronavirus cases in the state currently stands at 5,501 in the state, while active cases have reached 3,027, the department said.

Eight people have died from the disease in the past 24 hours – seven from Calcutta and one from neighboring northern Parganas 24 – bringing the number of deaths to 245.

During the same period, 187 people were discharged from different hospitals, bringing the number of recoveries in the state to 2,157.

Of the 371 new cases, 72 are from Kolkata, 60 from North 24 Parganas and 47 from Howrah, the health department said in its bulletin.

At least 9,354 samples have been tested for COVID-19 since Saturday evening. The number of samples examined so far has increased to 2.03,751, he added.
