The exchange of a symbolic key took place during the handover of Mangaluru airport.

New Delhi:

The Indian Airport Authority (AAI) has ceded Mangaluru airport to the Adani group for a 50-year lease, according to an official statement.

The central government privatized in February 2019 six major airports in the country – Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Mangaluru, Thiruvananthapuram and Guwahati. After a call for tenders, the Adani group obtained the management rights of all.

“In accordance with the concession agreement signed on February 14, 2020, AAI has handed over the management of Mangaluru Airport to @AdaniOnline on lease for 50 years. Symbolic key exchange held at midnight 00:00 on October 30, 2020,” said the IAA on Twitter.

The IAA had signed concession agreements with the Adani group on February 14 for the operation, management and development of Mangaluru, Lucknow and Ahmedabad airports.

On October 22, the IAA said in a press release that the Adani group would take over the airports in Mangaluru, Lucknow and Ahmedabad by October 31, November 2 and November 11 respectively.

Concession agreements for the other three airports – Jaipur, Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram – were signed between the two parties in September.
