Terrorists preferring to surrender during meetings with security forces is a welcome development, Jammu and Kashmir’s Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh said on Saturday as he called out to young people, who took arms, to abandon the path of violence. and return to the mainstream.

The DGP spoke with journalists on the sidelines of a function in Zewan on the outskirts of the city on the occasion of the “National Unity Day” which marks the anniversary of the birth of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

“The surrender of terrorists in recent encounters is a welcome development. Young people are accepting offers from the police and security forces to surrender even during live action when bullets are fired, so this is a welcome development,” did he declare.

The DGP said that all who have taken up arms should avoid the path of violence and return to the mainstream, ensuring them support in every way.

“We want the young people, who have been made to take a wrong path, to come back. There is still time, they can come back and we will help them in any way,” he said.

The Union Territory Police Chief said he was happy to see young Kashmiris participating in positive activities such as sport.
“We will support them in all ways and continue to organize such activities,” he added.

Asked Thursday about the progress of the investigation into the murder of three Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in the Kulgam district of southern Kashmir, Singh said the investigation was moving in the right direction.

“The terrorists, who carried out the attack, have been identified and further action is being taken,” he said.
