Chennai:
Tamil Nadu companies and industrial workers can now travel to Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Pondicherry without having to quarantine themselves upon return to the state, provided they return within 48 hours , although cases of coronavirus continue to increase in the state and across the country.
The chief secretary of Tamil Nadu, K Shanmugam, in a communication to all the district collectors and to the CEO of the electronic governance agency of Tamil Nadu (TNeGA), enabled the interstate movement of workers and managers, engaged in industrial and other economic activities, without testing and quarantine if they return from the destination within 48 hours.
However, those traveling to and from a containment zone will need to obtain authorization from the authorities of the two districts.
TNeGA, responsible for issuing tickets during the pandemic, was urged to arrange for electronic passes to help entrepreneurs and industrial workers get to neighboring states quickly for economic activities.
Some states like Karnataka have already exempted business travelers from the rigors of quarantine.
With 46,504 positive coronavirus cases to date and 479 deaths, Tamil Nadu has made testing mandatory for all symptomatic visitors from other states.
Unable to control the growing coronavirus numbers, the state declared a total closure in Chennai and some areas below, including the districts of Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu, from June 19 to 30.
India has reported 3.43,091 highly infectious coronavirus cases with 9,900 deaths to date.
