The swarm arrived in the village of Swasamaaf on Saturday afternoon but the vigilant villagers used drums and other means to make noise to scare the locusts and informed those responsible, said the deputy director (Agriculture) G Ram.

The Agriculture Department team sprayed chemicals on the trees where locusts had taken refuge, killing thousands of them, said G Ram.

The swarm later reached the village of Etwa where the insects were also killed in large numbers, said the official.
