Washington:
The Assembly of the State of California, United States, recognized the late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput for his efforts to promote India’s rich culture and heritage and his immense contributions to Indian cinema.
Sushant Singh Rajput, 34, was found dead in his apartment in the Bandra suburb of Mumbai on June 14. Mumbai Police are investigating his death following an accidental death complaint filed by Bandra Police.
The California State Assembly, in a certificate of recognition, noted “Sushant Rajput’s immense contribution to Bollywood cinema” and appreciated her “philanthropic community work as well as her efforts to promote the rich culture and the heritage of India ”.
The sister of the late actor Shweta Singh Kirti, who lives in the United States, received the certificate. The actor had often expressed his desire to work in Hollywood.
Indian community leader Ajay Bhutoria presented the recognition of the California State Assembly to the family of Suhant Singh Rajput.
The recognition of the Bollywood star was conducted by Californian assemblyman Kansen Chu.
“It is a great privilege for me to accept this honor from the California State Assembly, on behalf of my brother, in remembrance and appreciation for his philanthropic work and contributions to Indian cinema,” said Shweta Singh Kirti told the PTI news agency today.
“I thank Assembly members and the Indo-American community for their continued support in these times of crisis,” she said.
Her husband, Vishal Kirti, said the California State Assembly recognized Sushant Rajput’s contributions to Indian cinema and the community on India’s Independence Day.
“Millions of Americans of Indian descent are watching the ongoing campaign debates for #JusticeForSushantSinghRajput,” said Rajput’s brother-in-law Vishal Kirti.
“Indo-Americans expect the Indian government to conduct an impartial investigation into the death case of Sushant Singh Rajput,” he said.
On July 25, Sushant Rajput’s father, KK Singh, 74, who lives in Bihar, filed a complaint with Patna police against actor Rhea Chakraborty and his family members accusing them of having cheated and “encouraged the suicide of his son”.
The CBI recently resumed the investigation of the case and re-registered the Patna Police FIR. The Law Enforcement Directorate (DE) is also questioning Rhea Chakraborty, members of her family and others in connection with a money laundering case linked to the death of the actor.
