Bombay:
Actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s father, who was found dead in Mumbai in June, claimed he approached cops in February to warn them his son was in danger. Mumbai police refused to act, said KK Singh, the actor’s father, forcing him to approach Bihar police instead.
In a short self-supporting video shared by ANI news agency, Mr Singh also appealed to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who said he was ready to order a CBI investigation if the actor’s family wishes, to find out the truth behind her son’s death.
“On February 25, we contacted the police in Bandra and told them that our son was in danger. But they did nothing. After my child’s death, we again asked the police to take action. , but again they didn’t do anything, “KK Singh said in the video. .
“I went to Patna and lodged a complaint. Patna police immediately accepted this,” he said, lamenting that the “main defendant” in the case – a reference to Rhea Chakraborty – was still free.
“I also want to appeal to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his government to help us uncover the truth in this difficult time,” Singh added.
In his complaint to the cops in Patna, Mr Rajput’s father alleged that his late son’s girlfriend, Rhea Chakraborty, illegally transferred Rs 15 crore from his bank account in Mumbai and mentally harassed him.
A team of Bihar police then landed in Mumbai, where local cops were conducting a parallel investigation, and turf war broke out.
On Monday, Mumbai Police Chief Param Bir Singh told reporters that there was, at this point, no evidence to support Mr. Rajput’s family’s claims that Ms. Chakraborty was involved had illegally transferred money from the actor’s account.
He also said Mr Rajput’s family, including his father, failed to mention suspicions about Ms Chakraborty or their son’s finances in statements made on June 16, two days after the actor’s death.
Bihar police, for their part, are insisting that they too continue to investigate the case and follow the money trail wherever it leads. They will also investigate the alleged suicide of the actor’s former manager, Disha Salian, who died less than a week before him.
Even though evidence of financial irregularities in Mr Rajput’s Mumbai account emerges, experts say Bihar police likely have no jurisdiction since the alleged crime allegedly took place in Maharashtra.
Last week, the Enforcement Directorate waded into the mix, filing a money laundering case for “suspicious transactions” based on the Bihar Police FIR and the complaint from Mr. Rajput.
There were also calls for the whole case to be turned over to the CBI, which the Maharashtra government refused.
Rhea Chakraborty, who has filed a plea with the Supreme Court to transfer the case against her from Patna to Mumbai, broke her silence on Friday and called the allegations against her “horrific”. In her own video statement, she said “the truth will prevail”.
This morning, Mumbai police also said that Sushant Singh Rajput suffers from bipolar disorder.
