Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sukhbir Singh Badal today searched Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh and said his protest in Delhi was just a ‘luxury sit-in’ .
Badal said the chief minister should hold an indefinite hunger protest outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence, instead of holding “one-hour luxury sit-ins”.
Amarinder Singh hosted a sit-in at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Wednesday after failing to meet with President Ram Nath Kovind against suspension of freight rail services in Punjab due to continued agitation by farmers against new laws agricultural.
Mr Badal accused the chief minister of indulging in “tamasha” instead of trying to resolve the farmers’ grievances.
“However, you cannot fool anyone with your fake Raj Ghat mission launch because you failed to launch the real mission in the Vidhan Sabha by passing a bill under the head of agriculture that falls under the jurisdiction and making the entire state a single Mandi. The government of Chhattisgarh did this and its governor also signed the bill, ”Badal said.
Badal said if the chief minister was serious about getting justice for the state’s farmers, he would have to go on an indefinite hunger strike outside the prime minister’s residence.
“But he is unlikely to do so as he has already made a deal with the Center. The deal is so strong that the Chief Minister even changed the location of his sit-in from Raj Ghat to Jantar Mantar to the Center’s request., “he said.
Mr. Badal also announced his support for the “chakka jam” (roadblock) program launched by farmers’ organizations on November 5th.
