Aizawl:
A 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck Mizoram in the early hours of Monday, causing damage to homes and road cracks in several places, an official said.
No casualties have been reported, said the head of the State Department of Geology and Mineral Resources.
Quoting the National Center for Seismology, he said the earthquake had occurred at 4:10 a.m. and the epicenter was at Zokhawthar in the district of Champhai, on the border between India and Myanmar.
The tremors were felt in several parts of the state, including the state capital Aizawl, he said.
Several houses and buildings, including a church at Zokhawthar in Khawbunga, in the district of Champhai, were partially damaged due to the earthquake, he said.
The earthquake also caused cracks on highways and roads in several places, he added.
The extent of the damage remains to be determined, said the official.
The depth of the earthquake was 20 km while the coordinates of the epicenter are 23.22 (latitude) and 93.24 (longitude), he said.
A 5.1 magnitude earthquake also struck the state at around 4:10 p.m. Sunday, and another 4.6 magnitude on June 18.
