A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carrying two NASA veteran astronauts took off on Saturday on its first private flight with crew in space.
The double-decker SpaceX rocket with astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley on board took off smoothly in a cloud of orange flames and smoke from Launch Pad 39A at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida for the 19-hour trip to the International Space Station .

The first crewed flight from American soil since the end of the space shuttle program in 2011 was originally scheduled for Wednesday but was delayed due to weather conditions, which also remained uncertain on Saturday until take-off at 3:22 p.m. (1922 GMT ).
