During his six-decade long film career, Soumitra Chatterjee starred in some of the best Bengali movies like Apur Sansar, the latest in the Apu trilogy, and Sakha Prasakha. He has also starred in a number of films by iconic filmmakers like Mrinal Sen, Tapan Sinha.
The 85-year-old thespian has appeared in 14 Satyajit Ray films. He is also a recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Prize. He made his debut in the 1959 Satyajit Ray film Apur Sansar. The iconic duo have also directed films such as Charulata, Devi, Teen Kanya, Ghare Baire, and Ganashatru to name a few.
Besides his iconic filmography, Soumitra Chatterjee has contributed to art in many forms. He is also a theatrical, poet, writer, editor and elocutionist.
