Bhopal:
After chasing the collector, the Guna district police superintendent (SP) and Gwalior’s Inspector General (IG) fought against a couple of Dalits in Guna, the government of Madhya Pradesh on Thursday suspended six police officers who were allegedly involved in the incident.
Outgoing Guna SP Tarun Nayak has issued suspension orders for six police officers, including two female cops, according to official sources.
Ashok Singh Kushwaha, Rajendra Sharma, Pavan Yadav, Narendra Rawat, Neetu Yadav and Rani Raghuwanshi have been suspended.
The Guna Town incident precedes the diversion to 25 Assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh.
Taking the matter seriously, the BJP government transferred collector S Vishwnathan, SP Nayak and IG Rajababu Singh on Wednesday evening, a senior official said.
Interior Minister Narottam Mishra also said that a high-level investigation had been ordered by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan into the incident.
On Tuesday, a couple of Dalits drank pesticides when authorities attempted to evict them from government land in Guna City, assigned to a college they cultivated. It was said now that their condition was stable. Rajkumar Ahirwar (38) and his wife Savitri (35) are said to have rented the land to those who have encroached on it, officials said.
Police were forced to use force against them because they resisted the eviction and refused to go to the hospital after drinking pesticides, officials said.
A video that went viral on social media showed that the police severely beat the man with batons.
The Opposition Congress criticized the use of force and demanded action against those responsible for the incident.
Madhya Pradesh BJP president Vishnu Dutt Sharma said that Gabbu Pardi, who allegedly encroached on the land, was a Congressional employee who was close to a senior congressional official.
“This is a very unfortunate incident. The government took this very seriously and deleted the Collector, SP and IG,” he said.
President-in-Office of the State Congress and former Minister Jitu Patwari called Mr. Sharma’s allegations “baseless” and alleged that Mr. Pardi was an employee of the BJP.
State Congress spokesperson Bhupendra Gupta demanded an investigation by a judge sitting on the matter and also the suspension of senior officials.
