Famous singer S P Balasubrahmanyam is on maximum life support after his condition deteriorated in the past 24 hours, MGM Healthcare Hospital Chennai said in a medical bulletin on Thursday. The singer’s close friend, actor Kamal Haasan, went to the hospital on Thursday evening. SPB, as the singer affectionately calls him, has been in hospital since August 5 after testing positive for COVID-19. The 74-year-old singer no longer has the coronavirus – he tested negative on September 8 – but he could not be removed from the ventilator due to the condition of his lungsMr. Balasubrahmanyam’s son S P Charan said earlier this month.
S P Charan shared updates on his father’s health on social media and was optimistic in recent weeks. A day ago, he wrote on Instagram that S P Balasubrahmanyam was making “steady progress” and was undergoing physiotherapy. SPB was “anxious to leave the hospital as soon as possible,” wrote P Charan. A few weeks ago, SP Charan announced in a video posted on Instagram: “We expected daddy’s lungs to improve as they were but unfortunately we are still not at this point where we could. get rid of the fan. But the good news is, Dad is COVID negative.“SPB watched cricket on the iPad as well as writing and communicating,” his son said.

The singer, who has won six national awards, has collaborated with music composers such as Ilaiyaraaja and Oscar winner A R Rahman. Previously, AR Rahman shared a post on Twitter, in which he prayed for the singer’s speedy recovery. In addition to being a singer, S P Balasubrahmanyam is also an actor, producer and voice actor. Mr. Balasubrahmanyam is also a recipient of the Padma Shri as well as the Padma Bhushan.
