Bombay:

The Shiv Sena decided to hold its annual Dussehra gathering on Sunday in an auditorium in Mumbai and not on the grounds of Shivaji Park, where the event it traditionally held.

The move was made in light of COVID-19 security protocols, according to which the Sena-led government of Maharashtra has banned political, social and religious gatherings, party sources said on Saturday.

This is the first time that the rally will not take place at Shivaji Park, where party workers gather in large numbers to hear the party leader address them on Dassehra evening.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, who is chairman of the Shiv Sena, will address party workers at the Swatantryaveer Savarkar auditorium in front of the grounds of Shivaji Park in Dadar in central Mumbai at 7 p.m., the sources said.

He and his family will first pay tribute at the memorial to the late founder of the Bal Thackeray party in Shivaji Park.

Party sources said a select group of 50 people will have access to the auditorium, including ministers and leaders.

The event will be streamed live to all of the party’s social media accounts.
