Patna:
Actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha’s son, Luv Sinha, is set to make his political debut by running in Bihar’s election later this month.
Luv Sinha, 37, is Bankipore’s congressional candidate, opposed to triple BJP MP Nitin Navin.
Bankipore is part of the constituency of Patna Sahib Lok Sabha who elected former Union Minister Shatrughan Sinha twice to Parliament while he was in BJP, in 2009 and 2014.
Last year, Shatrughan Sinha, 74, ran for Congress after being fired by the BJP. He lost to Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.
Bankipore is considered a stronghold of the BJP, as is Patna Sahib. Caste played an important role in the selection of candidates; both belong to the upper Kayastha caste.
It is one of the 70 seats that fell in Congress’ share in the allocation of seats in the opposition alliance led by Rashtriya Janata Dal. Internally, the party mocks seats like this, more or less seen as a lost cause, where RJD had no hope of winning.
An interesting candidate for the seat is Pushpam Priya Chaudhary of the newly formed Plural Party, who entered politics through newspaper advertisements and once called himself the future chief minister of Bihar.
Luv Sinha had a short-lived film career unlike his father, a Bollywood veteran, and his sister Sonakshi Sinha, who starred in several blockbuster movies. He was last seen in the 2018 film “Paltan”. Her first movie, “Sadiyaan”, was in 2010.
He is the third in his family to stand for election. His mother Poonam Sinha was the Samajwadi Party candidate for the 2019 national elections in Lucknow, where Union Minister Rajnath Singh won.
Bihar will vote on October 28, November 3 and 7. The results will be announced on November 10.
