A seven-day lockout will be imposed within the municipal boundaries of Raipur and Birgaon from July 22 due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases, an official said on Sunday.
The entire area under Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) and Birgaon Municipal Corporation (BMC) in the Raipur district has been declared a containment area, said collector S Bharathi Dasan in an order.
Several activities will be restricted from July 22 to 28 at midnight, said the manager.
The Chhattisgarh has so far registered 5,407 cases of COVID-19 and the number is increasing day by day, he said.
“In the Raipur district, 1,172 positive cases have been recorded to date, of which more than 950 cases have been reported in the past month alone,” he said.
To date, more than 200 containment zones have been identified in the areas of the municipal corporations of Raipur and Birgaon, of which 165 containment zones are still active. However, cases continue to steadily increase in these two urban areas, he said.
All government, semi-government and private offices will remain closed during the lockout.
“The officials and employees will work from their homes,” he said, adding that all public transport services, including buses, taxis and auto rickshaws, will not be allowed to operate.
Only people on emergency medical service will be allowed to fly.
Private vehicles engaged in essential services or the transport of essential products will be allowed to circulate, he said.
The transport of commercial utility vehicles will be allowed in prohibited areas only overnight, he said.
All shops, commercial institutions and weekly markets will remain closed in the municipal areas of Raipur and Birgaon.
However, some flexibility has been allowed for factories, construction work and work in the two containment zones, he said.
In the event that a COVID-19 patient is identified in these factories / units, management must bear the full cost of treatment for workers.
Factories / units based in rural areas of Raipur district will be relaxed from these bans, he said.
All religious, cultural and tourist places will remain closed.
