September accounted for 41.53% of the country’s total COVID-19 cases, with 26.21,418 infections out of the more than 63 lakh cases reported in the month alone.
Last month, 33,390 deaths from the disease were also recorded, or about 33.84% of the 98,678 deaths recorded to date.
In September, 24.33,319 people recovered from coronavirus infection, contributing around 46.15% of the 52.73201 total recoveries recorded so far in the country, the Press Trust of India news agency reported.

India’s COVID-19 tally crossed 20 lakh on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23 and 40 lakh on September 5. It exceeded 50 lakh on September 16 and 60 lakh on September 28.
It took 110 days for COVID-19 cases in the country to hit the 1 lakh mark, while it had taken 59 more days to pass the 10 lakh mark. Cases went from 10 lakh to 20 lakh in 21 days, then it took 16 more days to cross 30 lakh, 13 more days to cross 40 lakh, 11 days to go over 50 lakh and 12 days to cross 60 lakh.
According to data from the Union Ministry of Health updated at 8 a.m. today, COVID-19 cases in India have reached 63.12584 with 86.821 infections reported in one day, while 52.73201 people have have so far recovered from the disease, pushing the cure rate to 83.53 percent.
The death toll from COVID-19 has risen to 98,678, with the virus killing 1,181 in 24 hours, according to data updated at 8 a.m.
According to the ICMR, a cumulative total of 7,56,19,781 samples were tested through September 30 with 14.23,052 samples tested on Wednesday.
