New Delhi:
Sandip Ssingh, the producer of a biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi who faced charges related to emerging drug use following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput had close ties to the BJP and the party government in Gujarat even gave him a multi-crore contract recently, Congress alleged.
Congressman Abhishek Singhvi asked who in the BJP was trying to “save” Sandip Ssingh, who produced “PM Narendra Modi,” whose posters were unveiled by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Mr Singhvi alleged that the film producer who claimed to be a close friend of Sushant Singh had made 53 calls to the Maharashtra BJP office in the past few months. “From whom he sought safety,” asked Mr. Singhvi.
He said political parties do not interfere in Bollywood affairs. “But if a suspect is linked to the ruling party, the country wants to know who they are linked to and who in BJP is trying to save Sandeep Ssingh,” the congressman said.
“Was Sandeep Ssingh the reason he was so eager to command a CBI probe? Why are such people linked to the BJP?” He asked.
Mr Singhvi said that Mr Fadnavis and BJP chief executive Nitin Gadkari should explain why Sandip Ssingh made these many calls to the Maharashtra BJP office and who his boss was.
The congressman said Sandip Ssingh’s closeness to the ruling party was evident from the fact that he made the biopic on Prime Minister Modi. “He’s not an ordinary person because none other than then CM Devendra Fadnavis published the posters for this film.”
On the upcoming drugs angle during the investigation into the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, Mr Singhvi asked what the Fadnavis government was doing at the time while in power in 2017 and 2018.
He also alleged that a case of assault against a minor Swiss national was filed against Sandip Ssingh on March 29 in Mauritius, according to documents available from the Indian Embassy.
Mr Singhvi also alleged that even though his business posted losses, Vibrant Gujarat state summit signed a Rs 177 crore deal with Sandip Ssingh in 2019.
The Supreme Court last week upheld the transfer to the CBI of an FIR filed by Sushant Singh Rajput’s father in Patna against actress Rhea Chakraborty and others for driving his son to suicide and deceiving him financially .
