New Delhi:
Alia Bhatt’s next film Sadak 2 is the latest in a growing list of Bollywood projects to be released on a streaming platform rather than in theaters. Sadak 2, following the success of Mahesh Bhatt in 1991 Sadak, was due to hit theaters on July 10. The coronavirus pandemic has forced several films to stop or be shown online; Sadak 2 Will do the same, producer Mukesh Bhatt confirmed – but the OTT platform on which it will air has not been revealed. Mukesh Bhatt, brother of director Mahesh Bhatt and uncle of actresses Alia and Pooja (who both play in the film), told PTI news agency that the streaming Sadak 2 is their best option for “surviving” and that the decision was “obvious”.
“I have to come (on the digital platform) because I don’t see any light in the near future. It’s the best I can do to survive. There are certain things you do, not by choice but by It’s the only option left. It’s a no-brainer, “said Mukesh Bhatt.
Sadak 2 will follow where Gulabo Sitabo, with Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana, is already gone. Gulabo Sitabo featured on Amazon Prime Video earlier this month. Other films that have announced a digital release include Janhvi Kapoor Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, Vidya Balan Shakuntala Devi’s biopic and the latest film by actor Sushant Singh Rajput Dil Bechara. Cinema owners said they were dissatisfied with the decision to broadcast and warned against compensation measures, which provoked strong responses from film producers. Mukesh Bhatt was pragmatic, telling PTI: “It (number of COVID-19 cases) is increasing day by day instead of decreasing. In this situation, do you think the theaters will open? And even if they do and Sadak 2 is out, will people watch it? People have to protect their families. Today, life is more important. “
The release of movies online versus theaters is only for now, said Mukesh Bhatt. “Now that the movies are released on OTT, that doesn’t mean the theaters are going to close. People need releases, big screen entertainment is fun. It’s a temporary phase. We have to understand it rationally and not explode or belittle us. ” We have to rise up, “he told PTI, adding that Sadak 2 was not made to put under “lock and key”.
Two days of filming are left on the film and will be finished next month, said Bhatt – the film and television industry has been allowed to resume work by the government of Maharashtra, while respecting several strict rules .
Sadak 2The impending online release has prompted a Twitter trend – but not the right way. Social media anger over the alleged Bollywood power play reached its peak after Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his home a few weeks ago; he focused on certain members of the film fraternity one of whom was Alia Bhatt – Alia wrote an article in tribute to the late actor who exasperated social media. Twitter reminded her several times that a few years ago, she spoke disdainfully of Sushant Singh Rajput on the Karan Johar show. Koffee with Karan. There is also discontent associated with patronage and patronage that plagues Bollywood. Twitter saw the Sadak 2 announces as an opportunity to declare their intention to boycott an Alia Bhatt film.
Sadak 2 also stars Aditya Roy Kapur, Jisshu Sengupta and Gulshan Grover. The stars of the original film, Sanjay Dutt and Pooja Bhatt, resume their roles.
