Aligarh:
The director of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), where the gang rape victim from Hathras was under treatment for more than two weeks, said today he did not know why she was admitted to the Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi when they had referred her. AIIMS.
“We are unable to explain why the patient was taken to Safarjung Hospital in New Delhi after we referred her to AIIMS,” said Prof Shahid Ali Siddiqui.
“On the night of September 28, the victim’s family requested permission to move her and we gladly referred her to AIIMS,” he added.
The next morning, the patient and her family members left for Delhi.
Asked about the matter on Wednesday, JNMC officials told reporters: “The Hathras district administration will be able to answer this question, we have not played any role in this.”
Professor Siddiqui said: “Normally the decision to move a patient to better medical facilities is made by the doctors in consultation with the patient’s family, but if the family members wish to follow their decision, they can do so and we always cooperate. “
Asked about some conflicting media reports regarding the injuries sustained by the victim, he said there was no room for speculation because “we are only allowed to submit the report to the investigator or to the court.”
Meanwhile, opposition parties and organizations have severely criticized the decision by authorities in Hathras to perform the victim’s final rites without the family’s consent.
The 19-year-old Dalit woman was reportedly raped by four men in Hathras on September 14 and referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi on Monday with spinal cord injuries, paralysis and cuts to her tongue. She died around 3 a.m. on Tuesday.
