New Delhi:
The body of Union Minister and Party Leader Lok Janashakti Ram Vilas Paswan was taken today to his Delhi residence at the Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). He died Thursday at the age of 74.
His son, Chirag Paswan, and Minister of Health Harsh Vardhan were among those present at AIIMS hospital early this morning.
Ram Vilas Paswan – cabinet minister to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and founder of the Lok Janshakti party – died in a Delhi hospital recovering from heart surgery. He was being treated in hospital, and had to undergo surgery last Saturday “because of the situation suddenly arose,” Chirag Paswan tweeted on Saturday.
The national flags of Rashtrapati Bhavan and Parliament were half-masted today to admit the minister’s death.
Interior Ministry officials said a state funeral would be granted to Ram Vilas Paswan and the national flag would be flown at half mast in Delhi and state capitals as a sign of respect. The cremation will take place in Patna on Saturday.
Ram Vilas Paswan has served as a minister in almost every central government formed since 1989 and has served six prime ministers, starting with the cabinet of VP Singh. Within the PM Modi firm, he was in charge of the Consumer, Food and Public Distribution portfolios.
