Defense Minister Rajnath Singh visited a sensitive outpost at a height of over 12,000 feet along the Line of Control (LoC) on Saturday in the Keran sector of North Kashmir, who witnessed frequent incidents of unprovoked shooting by the Pakistani army and cross-border offers of infiltration by terrorists.

The Defense Minister’s visit to the region came a day after he ordered senior military officials in Jammu and Kashmir to firmly respond to any Pakistani “misadventure” along the LoC and to thwart all “adversary” attempts to push terrorists to the Indian side.

Mr. Singh was accompanied to the high altitude post in North Hill by the Chief of the Defense Staff, General Bipin Rawat, Chief General MM Naravane, Commander of the Northern Army, Lieutenant General YK Joshi, and Lt. Col. Chin BS’s commanding officer, Raju, among others.

Before arriving at the post, Mr. Singh visited the holy cave of Amarnath and offered prayers.

Mr. Singh spent approximately an hour at the station, interacting with the soldiers and saluting them for guarding the LoC 24 hours a day despite the bad weather and other difficult circumstances.

Despite the coronavirus pandemic in the region, Pakistan has resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violations along the LoC and is making concerted efforts to push terrorists into Kashmir.

Pakistani hostilities intensified after India announced its decision to withdraw the special status from Jammu and Kashmir and to divide the state into two Union territories in August of last year.
