Indian Railways is working on a much anticipated project to link the Char Dham sites in Uttarakhand via a 327 km railway line.
Railways Minister Piyush Goyal announced on Twitter that Indian Railways will facilitate Char Dham Yatra for millions of worshipers.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister @NarendraModi, the railway will facilitate Char Dham Yatra for millions of worshipers. Devotees will be able to travel by train to visit Gangotri, Yamunotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath located in the sacred plains of Uttarakhand, ”Mr. Goyal tweeted in Hindi.
The minister also posted a video in his tweet with details of the project.
Much of the project will pass through inaccessible hilly areas, according to the video, which also indicated that the railways will need to build several tunnels for the project.
The railway line will connect Gangotri and Yamunotri. At the same time, Badrinath and Kedarnath will soon be connected by a rail network.
Indian Railways will lay four railway lines to connect the Char Dham, which will stretch for 327 km to connect the sacred shrines of Gangotri, Yamunotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath for an easy and comfortable journey of thousands of devotees.
The railway line will also cross Dehradun, Pauri, Garhwal, Chamoli, Rudra Prayag and Uttarkashi, the ministry said.
