Patna:
Senior RJD leader Satya Prakash Singh’s son Raghuvansh Prasad Singh joined JD (U) on Thursday, a day after Lalu Prasad’s party gave donation wife-turned-politician Rama Singh a ticket in the election to the Assembly.
Satya Prakash Singh was admitted to the JD (U) by the chairman of his state unit Basistha Narayan Singh at the party headquarters.
Its accession comes a day after RJD appointed Rama Singh’s wife to the Mahnar Assembly headquarters in Vaishali district.
Before his death on September 13, Raghuvansh Singh strongly protested against the enthronement of Rama Singh, the muscular politician who had defeated him from the constituency of Vaishali Lok Sabha in 2014 on the ticket of the LJP.
The veteran socialist leader and a close companion of the RJD supremo had resigned as RJD vice-president in protest against efforts to enroll Rama Singh in the party.
Following strong resistance, the movement was blocked after the intervention of party leader Lalu Prasad.
But Raghuvansh Singh’s disappearance paved the way for Rama Singh’s entry into the RJD, his wife being named in assembly polls.
Annoyed by the approach of the RJD leadership in the absence of Lalu Prasad, who is incarcerated in Ranchi after being convicted in four cases of multi-crore rupee fodder scam, the former union minister sent a letter to Supreme RJD of ICU of AIIMS Delhi. , where he was admitted then, announcing his decision to leave the party.
Lalu Prasad had rejected the resignation and sent a letter back to his close associate stating that things would be sorted out once he recovered and made a sentimental appeal that he was not going anywhere.
The day after sending his resignation letter, Raghuvansh Singh sent a series of letters to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar asking for an amendment to the MNREGA project and certain issues related to the development of his home district of Vaishali.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leaders from all parties expressed their condolences on the death of the seventy-year-old leader, who is credited with leading the NREGA program as minister of the rural development department of the UPA-I.
While paying tribute to the missing leader, Prime Minister Modi had asked the chief minister of Bihar to respond to the last wishes of the veterans.
Without wasting any time, the government of Mr. Kumar had approved some projects related to irrigation in Vaishali as desired by the socialist leader.
While giving membership to Raghuvansh Singh’s son, Basistha Singh hoped that he would continue his father’s unfulfilled work as a member of JD (U).
Speaking on the occasion, Satya Prakash Singh, who recently quit his job at the company, told media that he entered politics to complete the works left by his father.
He said his father endorsed socialist views that there should not be more than one member of a family in politics.
“Socialist leader Karpoori Thakur practiced it during his lifetime, as did my father,” Satya Prakash Singh said.
He searched Mr. Prasad’s family members for not welcoming his father’s protest against the non-inclusion of the issue of the reserve for the poor among the upper castes in the RJD manifesto for the elections of 2019 and also for bringing bad elements into the party.
While JD (U) and BJP flayed RJD for giving a nomination to Rama Singh’s wife by forgetting the reservations of the founding members of the party on the matter, Lalu Prasad’s party spokesman Mrityunjay Tiwari , said there was nothing wrong with giving a ticket to someone with “earning potential”.
