The autopsy indicated that George Floyd died in a homicide involving “cervical compression”.

Minneapolis, United States:

An official autopsy released Monday found that George Floyd, the African-American man whose death at the hands of police triggered unrest across the United States, died in a homicide involving “neck compression”.

George, 46, died “of cardiopulmonary arrest complicating subdual law enforcement, neck restraint and compression”, and the manner of death was “homicide”, said the medical examiner for the Hennepin County to Minneapolis in a statement.

Floyd’s other significant health problems have been listed as “arteriosclerotic and hypertensive heart disease; fentanyl poisoning; recent use of methamphetamine ”.

The statement added that “the manner of dying is not a legal determination of guilt or intent”.

He noted that under the law of the State of Minnesota “the medical examiner is a neutral and independent office and is separate and distinct from any prosecuting authority or law enforcement agency”.
