New Delhi:
BJP leader Jyotiraditya Scindia on Monday attacked his former party – Congress – over the recent political crisis in Rajasthan, sparked by an open revolt by former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot. The Rajya Sabha member, whose rebellion with 22 MPs led to the collapse of the Kamal Nath government in Madhya Pradesh earlier this year, said capable leaders face problems in Congress.
“It is a matter of pain that in Congress questions are being asked about capable leaders. My ex-colleague also faced a similar situation recently,” Scindia said, quoted by the news agency. PTI.
“Pilot is my friend. Everyone is aware of the pain he has endured. How, after so much delay, Congress is trying to put his house in order is also known to all,” added Mr. Scindia.
Mr Pilot, upset by notice to join an investigation into an alleged plot to overthrow the Ashok Gehlot government, had revolted along with eighteen congressmen last month. After skipping a few meetings of lawmakers, he was fired from his posts as the state’s deputy chief minister and congressman.
MPs loyal to Mr. Pilot remained camped in BJP-ruled Haryana for weeks, endangering Mr. Gehlot’s government.
Mr. Gehlot had accused Mr. Pilot of colluding with the BJP in a plot to overthrow the government through bargaining. He had also called her “nikamma” or unnecessary.
A breakthrough was made earlier this month after senior congressional leaders met with Mr. Pilot in the nation’s capital and appeased him with a promise to consider his demands.
On Sunday, Congress President Sonia Gandhi accepted one of Mr. Pilot’s main demands to remove Avinash Pande, the secretary general in charge of the state. The party also formed a committee comprising the new leader Ajay Maken, Ahmed Patel and KC Venugopal to respond to Mr. Pilot’s grievances.
