Hailakandi, Assam:
Tuesday morning, a major investigation by two members was opened to probe the strolling of COVID-19 patients outside the isolation rooms of a hospital in Hailakandi district in Assam.
The district administration instituted the probe when it was found that some COVID-19 patients came out of the isolation rooms and wandered into the administrative and OPD block of the SK Roy civilian hospital with some even trying to flee said officials.
Deputy Commissioner Megh Nidhi Dahal asked additional deputy commissioner Dr. Khaleda S Ahmed and assistant commissioner Parikshit Phukan to inquire into the circumstances leading to this and to suggest measures to prevent such incidents from happening again.
The magistrate committee will submit a detailed report to the assistant commissioner within 24 hours.
Currently, 45 COVID-19 patients are admitted to the isolation rooms of the civilian hospital that has been designated as a COVID-19 hospital, officials said.
Authorities took the incident very seriously, saying that harsh measures would be taken against those convicted.
A home guard who came into close contact with COVID-19 patients has been placed in institutional quarantine, they added.
