Srinagar:

The investigation into an alleged bogus encounter in Shopian, in which three men from Rajouri district were killed, is in its final stages, Jammu and Kashmir Police Director General (DGP) Dilbag said on Monday. Singh.

“The SSP, Shopian itself is monitoring the investigation process and more details of the case will be released very soon. Our investigations are at the final stages,” the DGP told reporters in Awantipora in Pulwama district.

He said the military and police were investigating the case, but declined to share further details.

Security forces claimed they killed three terrorists during a meeting at Amshipora in Shopian on July 18, but three Rajouri families said the men killed may have been their missing members.

DNA tests were carried out and the results, made available after 40 days, showed that the men killed were in fact Rajouri’s missing persons.

The military, in a statement earlier this month, admitted that the powers given to soldiers under the Special Powers of the Armed Forces Act (AFSPA) had been “prima facie outdated” during the meeting with Amshipora.

Mr Singh said investigators had obtained clues in a case related to the murder of a lawyer in the town’s Hawal neighborhood last week.

“We have managed to get some clues into (the lawyer’s) Babar Qadri case and we hope that the Jammu and Kashmir police will be able to resolve it very soon. We have already set up a SIT in this regard and an investigation is underway, ”he added.

Informing media about Sunday’s meeting in Samboora, the DGP said the murder of Ajaz Reshi and his close associate was a big success for the forces, as Reshi was the main recruiter for the Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorist group. (LeT) and had pushed a number of young people. to its ranks.

He said every effort is being made to bring back the lost youth and added that 24 young people have been brought back from the terrorist ranks this year with the active cooperation of their parents.

In Srinagar, the network is well in place as seven successful operations were carried out in the city this year, the DGP said.

“The city is on the radar of Pakistan and terrorist groups sponsored by it as terrorist groups try to find a foothold in the city. However, police and forces are aware of the situation,” he added.

The DGP called on people not to provide shelter for terrorists.
