Private schools in Gujarat have suspended online classes indefinitely from Thursday.

Ahmedabad:

Private schools in Gujarat have suspended online classes indefinitely from Thursday after a state government decree said they should not collect student fees until schools reopen. schools.

In a notification released last week, the government of Gujarat ordered self-funded schools in the state not to collect tuition fees from students as long as they remain closed following the COVID-19 pandemic.

He also asked these schools not to increase tuition fees for the 2020-2021 school year.

Unhappy with the move, a union representing almost 15,000 self-funded schools in Gujarat has decided to suspend online classes, an alternative provision launched earlier this month for students.

The majority of these schools informed parents by text Wednesday evening that there will be no more online classes for their neighborhoods as of Thursday.

Self-funded School Management Association spokesperson Dipak Rajyaguru said on Thursday that almost all self-funded schools in the state are refraining from providing online education.

“If the government thinks that online education is not real education, then there is no sense in giving such an unreal education to our students. Online education will remain suspended until the government is withdrawing this notification, ”Rajyaguru said in a statement.

He said the association would also approach the High Court against the state government’s decision.

Jatin Bharad, a prominent educator and member of the association, said there was no alternative to online education in the current scenario. “Self-funded schools have to pay the salaries of teachers and other staff. No state in India has made such a decision that tuition fees cannot be collected despite online courses. If we respect the state notification, it will be impossible for us to pay. So we have decided to suspend the online courses, ”said Mr. Bharad.
