A prisoner who tested positive for coronavirus escaped from a Haryana hospital while enjoying a protective suit. He has now been arrested.
The man, in a hospital in the district of Jind, is said to have donned PPE (personal protective equipment) worn by doctors and nursing staff caring for the infected. He then escaped, unnoticed by the security of the hospital and the police.
“The court bailed him after he tested positive for COVID-19. We removed our security while he was hospitalized. He broke the window of an isolation center and fled wearing equipment protective gear, “Dharambir Singh, a senior police officer, told the news agency. ANI.
The police transferred the prisoner from the district prison to the public hospital after he tested positive. CCTV footage from the hospital shows the man in PPE walking in a corridor among the staff. He jumped out of a first floor window, police said.
Coronavirus patients who escape from quarantine facilities are not new. Yesterday a patient from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala was brought back after fleeing from a hospital. The Kerala government has ordered an investigation, according to a report by the Press Trust of India. In Mumbai, an elderly patient tried to escape from an isolation center.
Earlier in April, eight people in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, including six coronavirus patients and two suspected of being infected, escaped from an isolation center in a hotel.
Haryana has 5,209 cases of coronavirus and 45 deaths. More than 70% of the cases come from Gurgaon, Faridabad and Sonepat.
