New Delhi:
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the progress of the reconstruction and development of the Kedarnath Dham with Uttarakhand chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat. Prime Minister Modi said work should be speeded up and assured Rawat that there would be enough funds available.
The Prime Minister stressed that shrines like Kedarnath and Badrinath must be laid out in a way that “stands the test of time” and must be in total harmony with the local environment.
Parts of the famous Himalayan sanctuary were damaged during flash floods in 2013 and PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the reconstruction project in Kedarnath in 2017.
In May of last year, Prime Minister Modi offered prayers and meditation in Kedarnath and also visited the Badrinath shrine.
Bearing in mind that pressure from pilgrims and tourists is not there this year, the Prime Minister suggested that the break could be used to speed up repair work. He also reminded the Chief Minister of State and other government officials that workers must follow the standards of social distancing for COVID-19.
Other heritage and religious sites in the region, from Ramban to Kedarnath, also need to be developed for tourism, said Prime Minister Modi. He reviewed the development of the Brahma Kamal Vatika and the museum near Vasuki Taal. The meditation caves under construction near the Kedarnath Temple should be accessible and welcoming to the faithful, said Prime Minister Modi.
Prime Minister Modi has visited the sanctuary at least three times since he first became Prime Minister in 2014.
